Conformity orientation: how important it is that you all agree. Conversation orientation: how many topics do you talk about. Four subtypes of family: consensual high/high, pluralistic low conformity/high conversation, protective high conformity/low conversation, laissez-faire low/low. Consensual: will have conflict, seek support from each other after conflict, high venting of feelings. Pluralistic: approaches conflict, low conflict avoidance, low expression of negative feelings, very little hostility, also high on seeking social support. Protective: conflict avoidance, parental authority figure, every now and then venting happens, low in support seeking. Laissez-faire: don"t deal with conflict at all, low intensity fighting if it does happen, unresolved conflict isn"t a problem. Button pushing: targeting sensitive areas on purpose. Gunnysacking/kitchen sinking: bringing up things from the past that aren"t relevant to the current situation.
