Features: the japanese rock garden or dry landscape garden, also known as a zen garden, the carefully composed arrangement/formation and layout of the rocks creates a calming effect, a true essence of nature. These zen gardens are usually surrounded by walls and meant to be seen while seated from a single viewpoint outside the garden. No symbolization with this garden, meant to incite meditation. *image 3 and 4 are the same garden. Features: arrangement of the rocks is different from usual zen garden layout of rocks. Usually zen garden has 3 groups of rocks equal to 15, the garden of ryoanji has 5 groups of rocks however. Unlike the hand scroll, this work"s composition is vertical rather than horizontal. The properties of a hanging scroll include multiple panels on top and bottom, a wooden rod at the bottom for support so it does not fly away.
