Document Summary

Lecture: emotion enhances learning via norepinephrine regulation of ampa-receptor. Emotion enhances learning via norepinephrine regulation of ampa-receptor. Panels a & c: norepinephrine acts in a time-limited fashion to facilitate ltp. This timing of ne on ltp is essentially identical to the timing needed for post- training epinephrine to facilitate memory consolidation. Panel d: the time-dependence of norepinephrine on glua1 phosphorylation matches the ltp data from panel c. Train mice with weak footshock in contextual fear conditioning. Give one group of wild type mice norepinephrine right after training, and another group of wt mice saline (control group). They also did the above with gr1aa mice that had a point mutation which blocks phosphorylation of the ampa receptor necessary for ampa receptor insertion into the membrane. In wt mice, the ne enhanced long-term memory (ltm) relative to saline. In the griaa mice, the ne had no enhancing effect on ltm.
