Menial labor require the same morals or intellect that spiritual house work does. This kind of household private labor primarily performed by women. Disproportionately women -> some men perform these tasks. Social stereotypes & expectations -> women perform these tasks. Distinction between members of the household (women) that perform spiritual labor (read stories, talk at dinner, etc. ) v. those that perform menial labor (cleaning, diaper changing, etc. ) The people who perform the menial labor are often poor & less educated. Classism that is part of the way that we just assume the world works. Patterns of people of color disproportionately performing menial house work & whites performing the more spiritual work. Menial house work is more often performed disproportionately by immigrant labor. Need to look to ourselves to challenge hierarchies rather than create them. Depends upon the race & class subordination. > look at border states & who is performing the menial housework.
