EURO ST 10 Lecture 12: Notes on Machiavelli and the Prince
Document Summary
Purpose was to try and give evidence-based rules on how one could manipulate power. Concluded what the monarch could accomplish with assumptions if he were to stay in control over a strong and solidified union. Supports the many claims he makes regarding the tools and method to gaining and maintaining power as a prince by offering examples of both prosperous and unprosperous rulers before him. Wasn"t published until 1532 which was five years after the author, machiavelli"s death. This was done with the permission of the medici pope clement vii. The prince is known and leaves a legacy for being innovative. It was written in vernacular italian rather than latin, a practice which had become increasingly popular since the publication of dante"s divine comedy and other such works that were featured and shown in renaissance literature. The subject that the text falls under is political science and its genre is non-fiction.
