Dream got reinvented as the single white married family in the suburbs. Urban life as center for half the population. A lot of people were locked out of the vision of the american dream. Baby boomers redefined the dream away from suburb living. Women as brides, wives, and mothers rather than workers. 90 percent of homes in the country have tvs at this time- see more advertising. Localized practices and centralized institutions which reproduce heterogendered norms as natural and superior. Not all forms of heterosexual behavior are idealized or constructed as normal . Wedding are part of commercial and commodity culture. Youth revolt and challenging status quo to various institutions. Negative representations of minorities in products were removed- native. Eeoc and nyc commission on human rights address- institutional racism in hiring. No longer legal for private or public entities to engage in racial and sexual discrimination. No intra-segmentation: african americans, asian americans, latinos imagined as homogeneous/generic group.
