Rousseau seems to have stage sense of developing reasoning; it evolves. Man begins developing reason in nature, then reason is rendered active. Maybe in his earlier stage there is reason, but it"s reason that is more of an instinctive or intuitive nature. The only thing that matters in locke and rousseau"s reason. Locke thinks man is naturally a reasoning creature. Rousseau forces us to call into question some of the beliefs we have in our society. We want to and seek to will the general. We get people to identify with the whole an think about what"s good for us. Continues to be important in even today"s people. People might take policy positions that they think would win over people. The way it should happen is that people would think what would be best. Murphy was a prominent scholar of the supreme court in the us. Talked about supreme court for a long time at princeton.
