I have a child that i tutor who is always showing me cool things that he can do. For example, he once made me come into the backyard so i could watch him climb a tree. I didn"t really know how to respond (besides oh my gosh please don"t fall your mom will kill me). Now that i know the child"s mom is okay with him climbing the tree in the backyard, an appropriate encouragement statement would be something like you did it! You balanced on that branch and climbed up really high. That was gutsy! this acknowledges that i am paying attention. He has adhd, so he constantly wants to talk and show me other things.
