Only accepted for the past 45 years. Geologically process: creation and destruction of lithospheric plates. Galileo, wegener, semmelweis: hypothesis evolving into theory. Created by convection in the outer core. Magnetic minerals aligned with that of eld. If the magnetic eld is to reverse: crustal magnets stay put/frozen. Sea oor spreading is driven by the convection of mantle.
