Document Summary

Species are not immutable (we can watch them change or even cause them to change). A gradual process in which something changes into a diff and usually more complex/better form. A change in allele frequencies within a population. Gene: section of dna instructing how to produce a trait. Allele: one variant of a gene (several may exist) We each carry two copies of every gene, one mom one dad. Sometimes they may be the same (bb/bb) or different (bb) We can measure the frequency at multiple points in time. Evolution is a change in allele frequencies within a population. Each island had unique species that resembled the mainland species. Maybe they used to be the same species: similarity between fossils of extinct species and the living species in an area. Concluded that there is a struggle for existence. Organisms better suited to an environment have a greater probability of surviving the struggle and will leave more offspring.
