Document Summary

Not actually 5 senses, we have much more than that. The brain can only interpret electrical activities. There are structures made to interpret sensations (like audio, visual) Ear: function is to hear and to sense balance. Balance: sensation of head position in respect to the body. The brain is what perceives the information. He cut his own ear because he was hearing noises. We will focus on epilepsy and meniere"s disease. Meniere"s disease is linked to an excessive volume of endolymph fluid. This is the only part of the eat that has liquid. Air molecules move the endolymph liquid, more endolymph means more sensitivity. Sound is simple a vibration of air. Air enters the pinna -> down the auditory canal -> tympanic membrane which vibrates slightly -> malleus, incus, stapes (amplification) -> cochlea (hearing apparatus where hearing occurs) Think about where the endolymph liquid is located. The stapes and tympanic membrane is within the middle ear.
