Document Summary

Spread: how closely data points in a distribution cluster around the mean. Standard deviation: measure of variability from the mean. Know how it is used to draw conclusions. How much a sample differs from population. Range: largest value minus the smallest valued. Small standard deviation often but not always has a smaller range. Quartiles are the three values that splits a set of ordered data into four equal parts (q1, q2, q3) Q1: of values are below this value. Q2: of values are below this value. Q3: of values are above this value. Distributions can have the same range but different iq ranges. Probability distribution: function that assigns a probability of falling within a given range on the x axis. Percentile ranking: calculated from the normal distribution. Population: all of the people that we are trying to understand in a study. Population parameter: value taken from a population. Sample statistic: value taken from a sample.
