One in six couples over the past year have had at least one violent act in a relationship: around 18% Common couple violence: acts that are common in relationships that are not out of control. Intimate terrorism: someone that is controlling and manipulating. They use their power for a good. Work together they use their power and then privacy of not telling anyone about it. Tension building: common in every relationship. Honeymoon phase: after everything clams down, apologizes. Lack of resources: dependent on partner (food, housing) Sexual abuse is often combined with other abuse. Under traditional law, marital rape did not exist because a wife was considered a man"s property. Forcing sex upon a wife is still legal in many states. Ends up being his word again her word. Jealousy: abuser believes that jealousy is a sign of love.
