Document Summary

A plan for conducting research that ensures the research question can be answered. Once you name your research design, you set up a series of logical choices to guide your research. Research design: operational plan to ensure the independent variable has the maximum opportunity to affect the dependent variable. Association ( correlations : (the two things should be related to each other) Time order: (one happens before the other) Isolate the effect (other variables aren"t actually creating the effect) Random: occur naturally, cancel each other out (highs/lows balance, no concern, systematic, researcher error. Instrument: sampling, collection problems, must be avoided. Good research: has a clearly designated research design that ensures the research question can be answered. Trend: same population, different sample, geographic area. Cohort: same population, different sample, group of people. Panel: same population, same sample (take data from same people, every point in time) Two or more groups (one is control group) Two or more points in time (pre-post)
