Most cells in our bodies and other organisms can generate a membrane potential. Membrane potential = an imbalance in charge that then creates a voltage. Even though the majority of cells can generate a membrane potential and ultimately a voltage, only certain cells can transmit one (move voltage from point a to point b). Plasma membranes carry the voltage aka can transmit voltage. Action potentials are all or none change (magnitude does not change, Frequency changes) ex: picking up remote vs. picking up table. Recruiting more muscles fibers to pick up table than remote. Could have synapse between nerve cell and muscle cell or even one nerve cell and nerve cell. Nerve cell transmit activity down its cell membrane. Chemical energy in the form of a neurotransmitter (chemical messengers shared between one neuron to one nerve) Pns - connection between cns and the rest of our bodies. Nerve fiber itself is generally composed of axonal filaments.
