The processes and judgement with which we make sense of our social worlds. We want to know what is going on around us. Thought of the day: you never have a second chance to make your first impression . Use general social norms about groups of people. People will usually seek information to prove them right more than they look for examples that prove them wrong. We have to change our way of thinking about them to change our way we view the relationship. When we love someone, we see them in the best light. Judge partner more positively than others see them. Why a person did or did not do something. We give explanation for our own behavior. Example: being mad at someone for doing the same thing that we did. We describe why we did something vs what we did. A solid foundation of understanding is important for lasting relationships. Current state affects how you remember something.
