Reactivity: occurs almost automatic without much thought or judgement. Self-regulation: occurs after one processes the situation and modifies their emotional reaction. This explains why children lash out, while adults have the ability to control emotional reactions. Emotion regulation definition: the ability to regulate your emotions by responding to the environment with the appropriate range of emotions. A desire to perform an activity for the sake of the activity. They are responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and modifying emotional reactions to accomplish one s goal. A desire to perform an activity to get a reward. Children will copy emotions that they see. They will react to their environment in the way their parents do.
