Document Summary

Lecture 6: the individual psychology of violence & Can"t understand war without studying the conscious decisions of the elites. War is not tragic - it is a conscious decision. Understanding how individuals see their world and respond. The problem with the role of humans in the past theories we have been looking at is that it"s too simplistic. Prof says that the role of leaders matter. Even though these talk about individuals, they disagree. No --- states, culture, society matter more that. They are easier to measure and we can see them over time. Sure trump is a different president than obama, but he could be a product of culture. Wrong wrong wrong: the individual matters a lot. Responsible for the start of wars and generates cultural moments. There is a reason why george washington matters. In position of power at right time and created cultural trend. We did not know when individuals should matter most.
