Document Summary

Physical vibration of an object that produces local changes in air pressure in the form of changes in the concentration of air molecules. Sound is a mechanical phenomenon, light is an electromagnetic phenomenon. Both light and sound are composed of wavelengths. Although light is usually described in the space domain, it is sometimes described in the sound domain (frequency) which involves knowing the speed of light. Pure tone: single frequency, the miserable one fuck this one. Most sounds in the world are complex tones, even instrument notes! Outer ear: gathering of sound and funneling to the eardrum, the pinna helps funnel the sound to the ear canal. Middle ear: ossicles-act as mechanical transformers, transmit pressure signal from one membrane (ear drum) to another (oval window) Inner: semicircle canals have vestibular neurons, cochlea have auditory neurons. Needs to convert sound signal from air to liquid medium, the amplitude gets dampened as you go from an air to liquid medium.
