Cytopathic bvdv kills cells as the culture grows o o o o o. This is an rna virus it is prone to constant evolution/mutation. Virus will infect an animal and you may see no signs- then it suddenly mutates in that animal and all of the sudden it can go to a totally different behavior and create nasty disease. Produces substantial genotypic, antigenic and pathogenic bvdv strains. Most mutations on the 3" prime end of the virus genome (5" prime end is very conserved) Leads to 12 subgenotypes within type 1 bvdv genotypes o. Rna viruses like bvdv are actually swarms of virus: genotype 1. Leads to 12 subgenotypes within type 1 bvdv genotypes.
