ANTH101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Sourdough, Sliced Bread, Upper Middle Class
Document Summary
It is really not about what type of bread it specifically is. It is the fact that it is being argued from a top down perspective: the way it is introduced to people is: the upper class thinks they know better, they know what is better for you. Invest values in it- think that activities say something about us. If you do not live that way, not experiencing life like the other, then something is wrong with you: part of our social system as a whole is the outcome of stratification. If you are fighting over resources, who gets their share and how it is distributed, everything becomes important. Initially built notions of socialist and marxian ideas but were never fully implemented. In the process of creating communist state, they formed another state of stratification: there are all sorts of ways that we stratify people, college education=social boost, all systems have inequality and differences in how hierarchy gets distributed.
