Systematic - go through system by system - neuro, cardiac (older people), respiratory, gu, musculoskeletal. Let the patient tell you whats going on with them - but sometimes you have to be really vigilant, and sometimes really have to redirect them. Neck pain and back pain - need to know if they have this; depending on the surgery, they could be laying supine for surgery for awhile, like 2-3 hours. Explore - have you ever been treated for it, what helps with your back pain. Donut under them - helps with pain long have you been on it. Some people know to the mg of dose exactly what they are taking.
