Mar 3503 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Hard Disk Drive, Eardrum, Cocktail Party
Document Summary
Sensory (strict and short, unlimited), stm (like ram, a lil longer and limited), and ltm (like hard disk drive, long and unlimited). Everything is shorter for visual and remembered longer for audio. Can remember about 7 more or less 2 of items at a time. Ltm also go through the primary effect (we remember what we first did more) and recency effect (we remember what we did last). It also has elaborative rehearsal, such as remembering what that memory really means. Forgetting, decay is use it or lose it. Retractive is remembering new and forgetting old, and proactive is the old interrupting the new. We reconstruct by remembering not exactly the truth. Persistence is remembering something uncontrollably even if we don"t wanna remember. Perception a long list of external stimuli (the five senses), then sensory receptors (where the five senses come from), and they all go to exposure, attention, and then interpretation.
