Record player, much smaller (portability: 1948 the lp (long-player) Before this only about one or two songs per record, this allowed a bunch of songs on a record: 1950 transistor radio. Portability again, invented from the war: 1963 cassette tape. Portable records , basically combined records and radios: 1970s fm radio becomes popular. Fm: good for sound clarity: 1979 the walkman. Radio and cassette tape versions: 1983: cds. Indestructible compared to tapes and records: 1990s: mp3. Real digitization of music: 2001: ipod.
