Reality and knowledge are shaped by human actors. There are many definitions and approaches to social phenomenon at any given time and place: for example, we talked about how feminine beauty standards have varied historically and geographically. With medicalization, we see medical understandings prevail and shape popular beliefs about an issue or problem, and how we define, understand, and solve that issue or problem.
