BIOL 207 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Synovial Membrane, Sprain, Rheumatic Fever
Document Summary
Mechanical disorders: sprain - occurs when the ligaments reinforcing a joint are stretched or torn, strain , dislocation (luxation) - occurs when bones are forced out of their normal position in a joint cavity. To reduce a bone does not mean to decrease its size, it means to decrease the space between pieces of a broken bone. Non-mechanical disorders: in ammatory, bursitis - in ammation of the bursae caused by excessive stress, sometimes caused by bacterial infection, tendonitis - in ammation of tendon sheaths (bursae surrounding tendons, arthritis - Acute: occurs over a short period of time (ex: lyme disease, rheumatic fever) Brous connective tissue becomes ossi ed and the bones fuse together. Osteoarthritis (degenerative): non-systemic, results from wear and tear of joints, bony growths develop on hyaline cartilage by a process called eburnation (disintegration of cartilage) !1 hyperuricemia: excess of uric acid in the blood.
