How is theory different than opinion?
- constructed using scientific facts

Functionalism
- about stability
- view of society: stable, integrated well
- Functions: help keep society stay in balance
- manifest functions - open, stated, conscious functions
- latent functions - unconscious or unintended functions
- Dysfunctions: element/process that disrupts societal status
