Children dependent on their families for survival. If you think about infants, they are completely dependent on caregiver (attachment) Important - speaks volumes for how that child is going to attach to people for the rest of their life. Historically, children would be forced to work to help the family system. Typically took place in poor or rural families. Helpful to have a bunch of kids. Schoolmaster also allowed to engage in corporal punishment. Number and laws and regulations to avoid this. Spoke about breaking a child"s will in the hope of saving the spirit from evil. All about trying to raise a good child. Things got a little better for children.
