Eva goes through life struggling with some attachment issues. Classic case of what happens when there is difficulty attaching in. We talked about the strange situation experiment last time. Secure - healthy relationship, consistency (child knows parent is going to come back) Insecure anxious - child would cry inconsolably and remain inconsolable when mother returned. Avoidant - didn"t care that mother left. Transitions to adulthood too - schema or pattern of relaxing. This doesn"t mean it can"t be changed. Takes a lot of time and new significant relationships. Splitting - when the mother or the primary caregiver becomes either all good or all bad, can"t cope with the notion that there can be good and bad. Child cries and the mother gives it milk to fulfil its needs - all good. Child cries and the mother is not attuned to the child"s needs - all bad. Unable to see the good side of the mother.
