Part of family culture to not talk about it. Being a white female fits in very well at schools. Belief that if she stayed in education, she d have an out. Went to college, was a good trumpet player, became a music teacher. She wanted things to be different for her children. Actively sought out help and good role models, went to therapy. Not really anything being done in elementary schools. Contacted the university of iowa, formed research team, developed a curriculum to teach staff about trauma and resilience.
