May be due to dry eyes or ineffective eyelid closure. Progressive deterioration of retinal cells in macula. Common cause of visual deficiency in adults over 65 years of age. Refractive error in which the lens of the eye cannot focus on an image accurately. Resulting in blurred distant vision due to light rays focused in from of the retina because the eyeball is longer than normal.
