Centuries before celluloid, moving images were created via optical toys. Disk with a picture on each side + two pieces of string attached at each end. Strings are twirls rapidly and the images appear. Cylinder with holes cut out vertically into the side. Band with a sequences of images played around the inner circle. Cylinder spins, viewer peeks through slits (which keep image from blurring together) to see a short moving image sequence. Spinning cardboard disk with vertical handle in center. Animate sequence placed evenly along the edge of disk with small rectangular slits cut evenly between them.
