All the more reason to practice integrated pest management. Insect facts: by definition have 3 body parts, a head, thorax, and abdomen, they also have 3 pairs of legs, for a total of six, mites are therefore not insects, although usually grouped by gardeners with them. Others have simple or gradual metamorphosis (as with grasshoppers and aphids) An exception might be very destructive (especially to crops and forests) exotic (introduced) species not native to an area. Total control is generally not feasible biologically or economically. Many beneficials will usually be killed as well: especially with flowers, most damage is species specific, on a few plants, and localized from the start. Much damage is also aesthetic: with some they may be a nuisance, but do little, if any, harm. This saves spray and time and the environment. Often it"s recommended to use a different product every third spraying (1) by different product, this is one containing a different active ingredient.
