An essay is a piece of writing that is written to convince someone of something or to simply inform the reader about a particular topic. In a standard short essay, five paragraphs can provide the reader with enough information in a short amount of space. Decide what kind of essay to write. Edit your writing to check spelling and grammar. The first part of your essay will be the introduction and it should begin by telling the reader specifically what topic your essay is addressing. The second part of the essay should be the first body paragraph, and it should present the strongest point that proves your thesis statement. The first sentence in this paragraph should tie into the transitional sentence in the introduction. The third part of the five-paragraph essay should present the second most compelling argument in support of your thesis.
