This lesson will examine the notion of history in terms of its" meaning, relevance and perspectives. Also to be discussed are the sources of history- the primary and secondary. Sources like newspapers, eye witness accounts, government reports, diaries, memoirs, speeches, books and the like will be delved closely with the internal and external criticism to determine the validity and authenticity of such documents. History consists of description and narration of past actuality integrated through critical inquiry through for the whole truth (gottschalk, 1950). Further, history studies the past and the legacies of the past in the present. Far from being a "dead" subject, it connects things through time and encourages its students to take a long view of such connections (corfield, n. d. ).

Erasmus was critical of the Catholic Church, but he wanted to see reform. For Martin Luther, a contemporary of Erasmus, reform was not sufficient; a whole new institution would need to be established. Using the primary sources assigned in Module One, with a particular focus on âErasmus Attacks Lutherâ and âLuther Replies to Erasmusâ, discuss the similarities and differences in their criticisms of the Catholic Church and their spiritual and religious views

Group Presentation

Each group will research and present the economic history of two decades in United States history. While I realize that decades are an artificial cutoff point, you will find many events that influenced the economy in each ten-year period. Considerations should include Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, unemployment, inflation, international trade considerations, and currency valuation. Included in these are fiscal policy by the government and monetary policy from the Federal Reserve. Each student will speak for fifteen minutes on his/her portion of the group presentation, utilizing a well researched power point as an aid.. When the presentation is complete, I expect the class will have a good idea of what went on economically during that era. I attempt to grade students on an individual basis, but a cohesive group tends to improve all grades.

Remember, this is not a history assignment, but rather an economic assignment.
