Document Summary

Social psychology vs sociology: both share an interest in situational and societal influence on behavior, they differ in their level of analysis, social psychology studies individuals, sociology examines broad societal factors. Identifying the ways, the people are both similar and different (unique) how we are like all others, and like no others. Identifying the stable characteristics/traits that are internal to the individual and that influence the wat that persons thinks, feels and acts: personality traits are internal and stable (across situations) Applying social psychology to an example: romantic dating. Scientific would conduct experiments to learn about the processes underlying interpersonal attraction and love. Thoughts, feelings and behaviours would look at each person"s thoughts about the other, feelings toward the other, and behaviours toward the other. Influenced by the dating individuals are influenced by one another. Real or imagine presence would focus on each person"s perceptions of the other. The critical factor is what each person believe about the other.
