Deloache"s scale mode task was to understand the advancement of children"s memory and reasoning through her theory of dual representation. It was used to see children"s ability to use scale models as representations of a full-size room. The children watched the researcher hide the object in this little room and then the child is taken to a larger room to find the object. As children were searching for the object in the larger room, they searched at random for the object without taking into consideration any clues from the scale model of the larger room. For children 2. 5 years old, they generally failed this task because they lacked representational insight. They failed to see the smaller object and the scale model as a representation of the larger real object.
