Chapter 1: introduction chemistry- the science that deals with the materials of the universe and the changes these materials undergo, whether physical or chemical. Why is chemistry important: health, medical, and pharmaceuticals, material science, electronics, energy and environment, food, art, etc. How to effectively learn chemistry: learn the vocabulary and how it is applied to chemistry. >dimensional analysis: memorize important information, learn and practice processes, do your homework, study at least 2-3 hours for every hour of lecture, bust your a**!! Scientific method defn: a systematic approach to research. The only way a theory can be made if your hypothesis survives many is experimental tests! law- a concise statement (verbal or mathematical) of a relationship between phenomena that is always the same under identical conditions. Note: a law can never be 100% proven. All it takes is one little bit of information that can disprove it.
