The video will discuss the development of the heart. The three layers of the embryo after gastrulation are ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. The mesoderm clumps in the cranial aspect of the developing embryo and becomes the cardiogenic area. The splanchnic layer of lateral plate mesoderm is the layer that secretes vascular endothelial growth factors (vegf) that stimulate the differentiation of angioblast and hemo cytoblast cells. Angioblast cells form blood vessels and the heart tube. The lateral plate mesoderm specializes to form heart tubes and pericardial cavities. When the heart tubes fuse together, they make one singular heart. The heart tube is formed from the lateral plate mesoderm stimulated by. The heart tube and pericardial cavities fuse during lateral folding. The heart tube is made up of the endocardium and myocardium. The myocardium secretes a jelly-like substance called the cardiac jelly.
