Canon law is the law of the church. It comes from the words canones, rules of law. Rules that governed the church, and the faithful. There is a lot of roman law in it (roman church lives because of roman law), but also typical rules invented by the church itself. At the end of 11th century, roman law became very prominent, church law existed, but was very difficult. Gratian was asked to put it all in writing so it would be clearer and not as difficult: Liber extra (1234), additional text, related to the decretum, written in 5 books. Liber sextus (1298) 6th book was written, more additional texts. Re-entry into the community of the faithful after conversion to islam. Based on cognitio extraordinaria, with a lot of canon law in it. Proof not based on religion, but proof based on investigations. Great council of malines (2) feudal law. It organises the relationship between the landowner and other people.
