Document Summary

List and describe some of the unique problems facing the earth scientist, and the way that natural experiments, laboratory experiments, and computer modeling can be used to address these problems. Process can only be observed as they are acting in the moment they may differ now from the past. The time and space scale is much too large to observe there are no practical experiments. Natural experiments by conducting multiple tests in a single area, scientists can combines their data and hypothesize what the most likely answer is. Computer models these can create both simulations and mirror real life natural events with accurate predictions. Laboratory experiments though they may not cover full time scales, some experiments can mirror conditions over a million years ago. Lecture 2: formation and structure of the earth. Know the age of the earth and how it is determined from rocks, minerals and meteorites.
