Confucius stresses education; creates civil-service exam which will ensure scholar- officials to keep the dynasties and system going even when there is chaos. Scholar-official: these are the educated people who have passed the exams; they run. Cohong guild: made up of a small chinese group of traders called the hong traders. Guangzhou: this is the only port that the british have access too; they are frustrated that they do not have access to all of china.
