Objectives: the goal of this course to gain a basic understanding of some ideas in modern mathematics and how mathematics are used nowadays. Grading: weekly homework assignments are due on thursday at 5pm. Drop the assignments into the box under your lecture instructor"s name that is located in cardwell hall next to room 120. Please staple all the sheets, put the assignment number and your name in the front page. A part of the grade will be dedicated to the presentation and the clarity of the arguments. Late homework or homework put in a wrong box may not be accepted.
