ANTH 1001 : Exam 1 Notes
Document Summary
Two competing theories of inheritance (a) traits are inherited fluidly, traits cannot be separated (b) traits are inherited in particles, and can be separated. Chose 7 characteristics to analyze, and each trait had to clearly contrasted traits. 1866- publication of mendel"s result. (know this date) Paper drew no interest until it was independently rediscovered. Mendel"s paper was mathematically rigorous: results of experiment. Self fertilization plants for years until had absolutely pure strains (only produced one expression seed texture round or wrinkled) Results of round x round were all seeds were round (100%) Results of wrinkled x wrinkled were 100% Results were not uniform: principles derived from mendel"s experiment. Principle of segregation: genes occur in pairs in an individual organism. Rr produces round seeds, ww produces wrinkled seeds, rw produces round seeds. Principle of independent assortment: the segregation of one pair of genes does not influence the segregation of other pairs of genes.
