Document Summary

Cellular respiration- makes atp; in order for the mitochondria to make atp: need glucose (sugar) and oxygen. If these cells stop getting oxygen, they die. This is because the cells cannot make atp if the oxygen is absent. Cellular respiration: done by mitochondria (mitochondria are located in your cells; they are smaller than your cell, mitochondria requires oxygen, this generates a gaseous waste product: carbon dioxide, atp (energy) generated during this process. *carbon comes from food we eat, - carbohydrates. Respiratory system: requires large, moist surface area, this is true for animals as wellc, fish gills, earthworms skin, blood and external environment interact, exchange of o2 and co2, gases dissolve in moisture easier, then exchange. If this doesn"t occur it dies, because it does not have a respiratory system like we do has no way to breathe in oxygen. Inside earthworm (low oxygen), outside (high oxygen) so oxygen moves from high to low.
