Communication characteristics: human- between 2 or more people, creative- through creation, we communicate a meaning. We create things using communication (english language: collective activity- communication amongst society, communication is something we do with others, regulatory- we use communication as a way to control what is around us. With what effect: **interactive communication model- there is a circle of communication because we added feedback. A. -shannon/weaver- decided that we needed some kind of noise to disrupt the interactive communication. Semantic- the symbols we use to communicate with are not working: transactional model- explains that people are senders and receivers of messages simultaneously. To communicate effectively, we have to have a shared field of experience (common ground to communicate). Theory- what we use to predict or explain a phenomenon. Buber (theorist)- made a theory of 3 types of interpersonal communication: I-it communication: treating the other person as a an object and getting something you want, impersonal comm; example: worker at starbucks.
