HIST 2055 : Take Home Final Revised
Document Summary
The first shots of the civil war went off in april 1861 at fort sumter. The union army showed up with only a few thousand troops because they assumed that the confederate soldiers really did not want to fight. The union thought that they would meet at the battleground and could talk the confederates out of war. Plans were going well, until a cannon from the confederate army fired off a shot. Although the shot was an accident, it started a war that would continue for about four years (nations at war). It is astonishing that a country would split apart and fight each other, when they are supposed to be one nation. The fighting against each other showed a sign of weakness to other nations of the world. Fortunately, no other nation tried to take over while the united states was weakened.
