Document Summary
Chapter 22 segregation and civil rights during world war ii. Gunnar myrdal (swedish writer) an american dilemma (1944) An american dilemma is about myrdal"s views on racial discrimination in america. He believes that it is a clear fact that at the time a lot of whites did not want as many negros in america. But, this is because they did not have a chance to because of the power of prejudice white people over them which results in a big dilemma on america. Since many men were at war, the women had to do something to keep america going economically. Jobs opened for them and some even went to war. The women did a great job and were celebrated because of their accomplishments but after war was over, they were expected to go back home.
