Efficiency and expertise: professionalization, middle management, frederick taylor writes a book called the principles of scientific management. Between female factory workers defending a maximum hour law they could work against the state of oregon. Law was upheld b/c the law applied to women. One of brandeis"s points was that all of the women were potential mothers. He went about arguing this case by using a 100 page document but only used 2 or 3 pages on expert analysis with doctors talking about how excessive work had worn the women down. Told them they had to base their decision on scientificly gathered information. Pathway to overturning precedent in the new way. John dewey was also a voice for progressive education that encouraged critical thinking to fix the problems in american society. Would give approval of businesses that treated their workers appropriately.
