Geol 305 midterm 1 review pt 4: where paleontologists look for dinosaur fossils, and how they must take care when collecting them. Also badlands which have minimal vegetation, a lot of exposed outcrops of rocks, and dry air. Dig dirt around the bone and go slow: how dinosaur bones are collected and displayed. Bones are collected and brought to labs for cleaning of the fossils. Molds are made for true fossils for casts. Then the fake fossils can be placed in more of a dynamic position, which would be more difficult to do so with the heavier, real fossil. I will not be asking much detailed information about chapter 2 on the midterm. Be sure to know mantell, sir richard owen, louis dollo, and their connection to dinosaur knowledge/collection, and about the mongolian expedition to the flaming cliffs. For example 23 million years old = 23 myo.
